We are looking for a Professor of Electrical Engineering with a focus on control technology and signal processing. The holder of the professorship is expected to supervise PhD students and conduct research and postgraduate education of high international quality, which is why the applicant must be able to demonstrate a great ability in publishing research results in international scientific journals and conferences which apply a referee-system. It also requires that the holder has shown a good ability to competitively obtain external research funding, as well as demonstrated an ability to develop and carry out applied research projects in collaboration with national and international research groups and industry. The professorship also include work that contributes to the development of the department's undergraduate education and postgraduate program in electronics.
Electrical engineering is a broad subject area where hardware is developed to be applied in electric power, electronics, communication, transport technology, sensor technology and medical technology with methods stemming from e.g. signal processing, analytical and numerical modelling, as well as simulation. Hardware development of the future requires integration with intelligent systems which involves the development and analysis of complex systems and processes. An example of this is autonomous control and regulating systems.
The professorship will be provided with operational resources and a PhD student. The employment initially involves research/development work at 75%. The remaining time can involve teaching as well as course and examination responsibilities within education at the undergraduate level, master level and postgraduate level, as well as administrative tasks within the department. The breakdown between research time and time for teaching/administration may vary over time. The holder of the professorship is expected to contribute to the review of educational opportunities and to the establishment of new programs. Electrical engineering has been highlighted as one of the department's main future focus areas, which means that future resources will be used for further recruitment.
Umea University invests actively to increase the percentage of female professors and we therefore particularly welcome female applicants.
